The aim of PESTLE analysis is to understand how macro-environmental factors affect the performance of an organization, then take appropriate actions to adapt to the changing environment. It brings together six external perspectives that serve as useful input into the strategic planning process of an organization. These six perspectives are: Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental external factors.

This template is a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation file that you can modify to suit your specific needs. For example, you can customize the header to align with your company’s standards. A Microsoft Excel version is also available, which is useful for systematically documenting inputs from a PESTLE analysis session in a clear and user-friendly way.

PESTLE Analysis Worksheet

This PESTLE analysis worksheet provides a structured approach for scanning the external environment of any business. It follows an eight-step process and designed to be simple and easy to complete. These steps are:

1. Brainstorm and identify all possible external factors that could impact your business.
2. Determine the potential opportunities and threats that may arise from each factor.
3. Locate reliable sources for gathering information on each identified opportunity or threat.
4. Compile the potential opportunities and threats along with the corresponding sources.
5. Develop a structured questionnaire or checklist to guide your data collection process.
6. Gather and record external environmental data from relevant sources.
7. Analyze the collected data and identify significant opportunities and threats.
8. Develop and implement strategies to capitalize on opportunities and mitigate threats.

Note that you may modify the elements in the PESTLE tree structure to meet your needs. You may also add additional sources of information as necessary.
